SHAMBOLICA! were kindly asked to perform at the PRAGUE QUADRENNIAL JUNE 2011. Held once every four years in the Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space is the world´s largest performance design event – a presentation of contemporary work in a variety of performance design disciplines and genres including costume, stage, lighting, sound design, and theatre architecture for dance, opera, drama, site-specific, multi-media performances, and performance art.
SHAMBOLICA! participated as part of Sound Kitchen as part of the light and sound section. The Sound Kitchen is a performance space for interactive sound installations and will present sound works for laptop computers or other mobile devices.
We were delighted to participate and were asked by Steve Brown (SK organiser) to do two performances. We decided before we went to Prague that the performance would be called "Interconnecter" with the brief;
This soundscape performance showcases live and recorded audio from the quadrennial - mixed Shambolica! style for the Sound Kitchen at PQ’11. The piece, entitled ‘Interconnecter’ is devised specifically for PQ’11, and about PQ’11. It features live sound manipulation and celebrates the festival by capturing sounds and voices from venues across the city during the run of the festival and linking them with a mobile device for the performance. Sounds will be processed with effects to create rhythmic patterns fused with sounds from previous Shambolica! performances from the UK. This is a fusion of sound design for performance utilising voice through a contemporary multimedia approach. This performance of a sound immersing environment creates a regenerative soundscape. The live audience is intended to be an eclectic mix of creative individuals interested in visual arts, media, sound, theatre and performance.The first performance was largely an improvised piece involving sounds we had collected throughout the week and the second performance was more retrospective involving visuals and sounds from the "REGENERATOR" performance which took place earlier in the year. Both performances were a huge success and we were thrilled to not only perform as part of this great event but to creative and appreciative audience.
The whole week was a beautiful sparkling adventure for Team SHAMBOLICA! (aka team sparkle) and TEAM PLAYFORD, thank you so much guys, memories forever.
